Graphics (from Greek γραφικός; see -graphy) are visual presentations on some surface, such as a wall, canvas, computer screen, paper, or stone to brand, inform, illustrate, or entertain. Examples are photographs, drawings, Line Art, graphs, diagrams, typography, numbers, symbols, geometric designs, maps, engineering drawings, or other images. Graphics often combine text, illustration, and color. Graphic design may consist of the deliberate selection, creation, or arrangement of typography alone, as in a brochure, flier, poster, web site, or book without any other element. Clarity or effective communication may be the objective, association with other cultural elements may be sought, or merely, the creation of a distinctive style. Graphics can be functional or artistic. The latter can be a recorded version, such as a photograph, or an interpretation by a scientist to highlight essential features, or an artist, in which case the distinction with imaginary graphics may become blurred. GNU Free Documentation License How do I make my graphics card work to its fullest extent? Q. I have a Dell Dimension 2400 Desktop, and it only has the standard graphics card. I want to play Spore (yeah, that's right), and every time I download it, it tells me i need to upgrade my graphics card; It needs to be able to support pixel shader 2.0. Is there any way I can upgrade, or work on it so I dont have to buy a $150 graphics card? Asked by Derek M - Thu Oct 2 18:17:38 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Do you have integrated graphics or a dedicated graphics card? Good news, bad news. You are going to have to buy a new card BUT definitely not 150. For 150 you can get an 8800gt! If all you want to do is play spore (and even get dual monitor capability) I suggest either the 8400, 8500 or 8600gt graphics from nvidia. The 8600 is a little pricey but the 8500 is extremely cheap AND no need to upgrade power supply. And I can guarantee that it will work. Go on circuit city or amazon and you can get the 8500gt from nvidia for 44.99. Hoped this helped! Answered by illuminati789 - Thu Oct 2 18:27:47 2008 What graphics editing program would you recommend for the following tasks? Q. Hi folks, I need a graphics editing program that can: 1. Add borders 2. Resize both image and canvas 3. Correct photos, ideally with some automated system 4. Crop images I've been using PaintShopPro XI, but it has an awful bug related to trying cache images in the My Pictures directory. Anything else out there? Thanks Asked by StainlessSteelRat - Sat Sep 27 06:02:13 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. ~The GIMP is good for all that and also supports writing your own filters/scripts for it, and is free, although for automation, I suggest ImageMagick. It's great for automated/scripted editing. Answered by Girl - Sat Sep 27 06:13:52 2008 What program do I need to save my graphics with a transparent background?
Q. I've been playin around with graphics and backgrounds, trying to make my own. The backgrounds are easy enough for me, but the graphics are a whole another issue. I currently am using just my regular paint program that came with my computer. And there seems to be no way to save my graphics with a transparent background. So what program do I need for this? Is there an easy to use, free downloadable one out there? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Asked by Rebecca F - Sun Jan 18 05:41:11 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Your right, Windows Paint has no way of defining a transparent background color. However you do have to use a file format that supports transparent colors such as either GIF or PNG. Check out the free Paint.net editor. Also look at the "How to make a transparent GIF" link.
